We talk a lot about global impact at City of Refuge. The above map shows the home countries of the people we most often serve. At any given point during our day, we might have a variety of languages, cultures, and tribes integrating in our community center, or in our sewing class, or at Homework Helpers. It’s a beautiful vision of what can happen when people come together, in spite of the things that can so readily separate us.
We talk about global impact because the work we do doesn’t only impact those who have resettled in mid-Missouri.
It impacts their families, friends, and communities that are still living all over the world. When we help our friends living here make ends meet, they’re better equipped to support others who are still in the midst of conflict or extreme poverty. One of our friends was recently able to visit Africa again. When he returned, he shared with us about a single school classroom that has 124 students in it. He is grateful for the opportunity his children have for education in America, but he is burdened by the struggles his extended family encounters on a daily basis. When we help and support him, he is more empowered to do more for them. We want to do more of this, for more individuals and families.
Today is an important day for City of Refuge. We rely heavily on year-end giving to strategically prepare for the upcoming year. While 2022 was beyond what we could have hoped for, we have exciting plans for 2023 to better serve and celebrate our refugee neighbors. We need your partnership and support to make our dreams a reality.
