It is almost time for World Refugee Day 2022! What a year it has been for the refugee community and those who serve them, as we continue to see new arrivals from around the world, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Iraq, Syria, and of course our newest neighbors from Afghanistan. A thriving refugee community has come to exist in our midwestern state, and this is worth celebrating!
This year, we are teaming up with Catholic Charities Refugee Services to host a World Refugee Day 2022 Celebration on June 25th at Cosmo Park in Columbia. Food, games, performances, and more will be featured in a family friendly environment in which all are welcome. We expect a great turnout, and plan to see several hundred (or more!) of our neighbors and community members celebrating with us.
Putting on an event of the size and scope that is planned requires resources, and Catholic Charities and City of Refuge are looking for partners who would be interested in donating financially to support World Refugee Day. Supporting the event is a great way to give back to the refugee community, and City of Refuge and Catholic Charities are both 501(c)(3) organizations who rely on community support to carry out their missions of serving those who have been displaced from their homelands by war, terror, and violence. It takes an entire community to make refugees feel welcome, and we hope our community will consider supporting our efforts with World Refugee Day.
