It’s fall, y’all! Truly, my favorite time of year. The dipping temperatures, changing leaves, cozy meals and football! Autumn also means the start of a new school year. This fall marked the second semester of City Preschool! We opened our doors to 18 energetic three, four and five-year-olds from across the world and across town. Many of them returned from last year, and it has been an absolute thrill to see them take on leadership roles in their classrooms. We missed each other! Several times over the summer, I would walk out of my office to be greeted by sweet little faces, pressed upon the entryway glass. When I opened the door, my heart melted to hear one after another exclaim, “Teacher!” and throw their tiny arms around me.
With the addition of new students, of course we also needed to expand our staff. We have three new teachers and have opened another classroom! One teacher from last year returned and the other now serves as a substitute teacher. We’re really growing!
If you were to ask me what my favorite part of this year has been so far, I’d have to take a moment to consider. Is it the creativity of our dedicated teachers? The growth of and within our student population? The fact that we have such beautiful commonality and diversity of both staff and students? The blessings abound! At this moment, if I had to pluck one thing, it would be the playground. You may recall that we were eagerly awaiting its completion all the way until the very last week of school. And now, it’s finished, and we all love it! It’s where kids get to run the fastest, yell the loudest and where we really get to see the relationships forming. Working together in a classroom is one thing, but when kids are on the playground, they make bigger choices about who they want to play with. And as you can see, they choose each other.
November is a month where I try extra hard to show gratitude. Guess who made my “people I’m grateful for” list this year? YOU! Thank you for the ways you show kindness. Thank you for the ways you support our mission. Thank you for the ways you help keep City Preschool moving forward. We literally couldn’t do this without you.
