This April, join City of Refuge for Poem-a-Thon: a 30-day writing challenge that turns creativity into compassion.
We’re inviting you to write something every day for 30 days. A poem. A paragraph. A few honest lines. Through language, culture, story, identity, and resilience, we’ll explore the healing power of putting words to the human experience — and use those words to stand alongside our refugee neighbors in Mid-Missouri.
When you participate, your writing becomes a voice of welcome.
How It Works
1. Sign up & set your fundraising goal.
Choose a goal that stretches you and reflects the impact you want to make.
2. Invite others to sponsor your journey.
Ask friends, family, and colleagues to support your 30 days of writing.
We recommend starting with $30 per sponsor, just $1 per day of creativity and solidarity.
3. Write each day in April.
You’ll receive optional daily prompts in your inbox to spark inspiration. Write in whatever way feels meaningful to you — structured or freeform, polished or raw.
4. Share (if you’d like!).
Participants will have opportunities to share their work online and at in-person gatherings designed for connection, reflection, and encouragement. We would love to celebrate what you create.
Whether you’re a seasoned poet or someone who hasn’t written since middle school, Poem-a-Thon is simply about showing up with curiosity, courage, and compassion.
Together, we’ll write words that matter and help create a community where every story belongs.
