Every time I go into our Basic Needs Closet, our toilet paper shelf looks sad. I would guess it’s our most-often depleted item…and I would guess it’s our most needed item. I have a dream where one day I’ll go into the closet and see rolls and rolls of toilet paper… and then rolls and rolls of back-up toilet paper. Can you help make my dream a reality?

For a little background, if you haven’t come by to tour yet (and you totally should, our next Tea & Tour is actually coming up – SIGN UP HERE if you haven’t seen our new place), we have a “Basic Needs Closet”. In this closet are lots of items that a refugee can’t acquire through social benefits. Things like toilet paper, shampoo, soap, diapers, feminine hygiene products, over-the-counter medicines. Things that are important. Things you notice immediately when you don’t have them. Things that add up financially, especially nowadays, especially if you have a large family.

So, at City of Refuge, we regulate the comings and goings of this closet, but we do try to supplement and offset the costs for our families/individuals, especially those that are experiencing a higher degree of hardship. For example, maybe the sole income earner just lost their job, maybe a challenging health situation popped up, maybe a family just moved here and is working hard to get acclimated to their new surroundings. There’s a whole host of reasons why these items become highly sought after ways to tangibly show our friends that we are here to help. And you help make that possible.

Click the link below to find out how you can help be a part of lightening the load. You’ll find our Amazon Wishlist there, as well as ways you can rally a group of folks together to help support the cause. Or, just next time you hop over to buy your own toilet paper or soap, buy two instead. Bring it by 10 N. Garth Ave. Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm and we’ll add it to our shelf!
